RESEARCH & RESOURCES TO INCREASE
SUPPORT FOR GIRLS OF COLOR
ABOUT THE REPORT
Start from the Ground Up: Increasing Support for Girls of Color, a research project of Grantmakers for Girls of Color, opens a window into opportunities for philanthropy to be more equitable and accountable to girls of color and shines a light on how critical the reality of underfunding is for organizations led by and for girls of color.
We hope these new tools will facilitate important conversations within philanthropy, bolster the work of leaders in the Grantmakers for Girls of Color network, and catalyze an increase in resources to organizations and leaders focused on girls of color.
Toolkit
The Start from the Ground Up toolkit provides a series of activities and resources to facilitate discussion and action within philanthropy.
Our hope is that this toolkit can encourage conversations that lead to new and innovative investments in opportunity, education and safety for girls of color, as well as in their leadership.
We look forward to hearing how you use the toolkit and the research, and how we can continue to develop tools that gives our sector the skills and resources we need to move the needle.

In their own words
Here are the voices of girls sharing their experiences and guidance for philanthropy. When we listen to girls and invest in their needs as well as their dreams, they become the strong, powerful women of color leaders we need.
The researchers of Start From the Ground Up held Town Hall discussions with young women across the United States. These audio murals incorporate the words of young women who participated in those discussions. Experience them to complement your reading of the Research Report, or use them as part of some of the activities in the Start from the Ground Up toolkit.
